Water Ski/Board/Sports
The NT Water Ski Association is committed to the promotion of all water sports with particular emphasis on water-skiing and wakeboarding. Frequent water sports events are organised by the Club's Water Sport Development Officer who is working hard to establish the Club as the home of water sports in Darwin. To participate in the water sport activites, membership is required. Click here to access our membership forms.
The NT Water Ski Association now owns a disabled sit-ski and slalom sit-ski, courtesy of a Department Of Justice, Community Benefit Grant. People with a disability are now able to enjoy the thrills of water-skiing.
The Australian Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (AWWF) have held multi-discipline tournament/come and try event in Darwin with ski, wakeboard, barefoot and disabled coaching clinics and events. It is always great to see so many people out there having a go.
In 2011 the NTWSA purchased a 2007 tournament approved Nautique ski boat which is used for both skiing and wakeboarding. A training boom is available to help beginners to gain their skills in either skiing or wakeboarding. Everyone is welcome no matter what your ability - all levels are catered for.

During the Dry Season (May - October) water-skiing and wakeboarding sessions are held on the Club's privately leased fresh water lake - Lake Deane - at Berry Springs and also on Darwin Harbour, directly in front of the Ski Club premises. Tides and weather permitting, the harbour is a fantastic place to participate in all water sports. During the Wet Season (October - May) all water sports are conducted at Lake Deane at the Lakes Resort at Berry Springs (approx 40 mins from Darwin). In 2011 regular tournament, disabled skiing and wakeboarding sessions will be conducted. Regular wakeboarding and water-ski clinics are held with champion instructors from interstate:
- Adam Bruce from SA holds twice yearly wakeboarding clinics for all ages and skills at the Lakes Resort at Berry Springs. Adam has been boarding for 13 years and has spent the last eight travelling the world riding competition, doing demos and coaching. Check out South Side Wakeboarding for more information.
- Emma Sheers, World Champion Slalom Skier, holds several clinics a year for slalom and trick-skiing for all ages and skill levels, also at the Lakes Resort Berry Springs. Emma competed professionally for over 10 years and is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things skiing! Check out her stats at IWSF Ranking.
The Club aims to encourage as many people as possible to get involved in water sports. Please contact us for more information and skiing times on 0419 805 486.
Lake Deane:
The NT Water Ski Association leases a fantastic fresh water lake, named Lake Deane, at the Lakes Resort at Berry Springs (approx 40 minute drive from Darwin). This lake is for the exclusive use of NTWSA members and is perfect for all kinds of water sports. We are usually there every Saturday but other sessions are always available.
